This boot was made for A guy who
lived in Dorking Surrey, it has A 10 inch Bridge Type Raise and was made
for him because he severly broke his Femur when he was a young child,
during the time when little was known about corrective surgery because
of this his leg stopped growing. This is the boot that started
my interest in built ups, I first saw this guy in 1973 when I was just
13 years old, I remember trying to get a good look at it as I had never
seen anything like it before. The guy must have been 65 + years old then
and over time I plucked up the courage to ask him about it. I used to follow him for ages
untill he stopped at the the bus stop and sat down, I often sat next to
him just to look at his boot. I am sure he knew that I liked it as he would
move it about so as to catch my Eye. Oh how I would have loved to play
with it. I moved away from the area some
years after and did not see him again. I got the boot from the makers
near Guildford. When I was over there one day I stopped at a library and
looked up all the shoe makers in the area as there was only one I
rang them to See if they had any old pairs that they were going to throwing
out, and they told me about this one and how they were left with it to
use as a pattern for new pairs. they had not made any for some
years for this guy and were under the imprssion that he had passed away. They did not know my side of
the story and told me that it was made for this guy in Dorking, that is
when I told them that I had seen him, so I guess some things are Just meant
to be.
