Mr wilson was born in 1918 and in 1920, it was first noticed that he could no longer stand up and reverted to crawling around after a visit to the doctor it was found that he had contracted polio. The above photo was taken in 1926 an shows Mr Wilson wearing his sunday best, new boots and leg brace. there is already a 3 inch shortening of the lower leg.
Over the years the muscles in his lower right leg have wasted away and he nas no movement from the knee down and his right foot has dropped slightly and is smaller than his left, he has been fitted with a plastic type leg brace which he does not wear as it causes him severe discomfort and chaffes the skin on his leg.
as Mr Wilson grew older and disabilities from polio were quite common his freinds at school nicknamed him "Gammy Wilson" and as he grew older this was shortened to "Gamm" Mr Wilson was not bothered by this and to this day his surviving freinds still call him "Gamm".
After a few odd
jobs He got a job in a barbers doing all the odd jobs and eventually taking
on the business with a partner untill his retirement in 1979....
