Mr Pearce donated this pair of
shoes which are etxremely large, the lef one is 14inches long and the right
one is 13inches long with a build up of 51/2 inches
they are so large it is difficult to photograph them in detail.
Mr Pearce was in the R.A.F in
the 1960's and whilst serving was involved in an accident whilst dispatch
riding.
He shattered the femur,fibula
and tibula in his right leg so severely that amputation was suggested.
However at the hospital the
team of surgeons whowere going to carry out the amputation found during
surgery that although the bones were severly damaged the nerve and muscle
tissue was still in good shape so after 14 hours of surgery the surgeons
trimmed , screwed and pinned the bones back together this resulted in the
51/2 inch shortening
Mr pearce then spent many months
in hospital having more surgery and physiotherapy to get the leg in working
order.
He can now walk on it o.k but
has an acute limp.
