Mr Upchurch

I first met Mr Upchurch over a year ago now when in a supermarket at the checkout when he dropped some of his shopping, upon helping him by picking it up he explained that it was not easy for him to bend down to pick things up due to his leg being 3 inches short..
As we were already chatting i explained to him that i collect built up shoes and about this web site he was intrigued and we went into the coffee shop and over a cupof coffee he explained to me the reason that he wears a built up shoe and provided me with these details.
his problem started in 1975 when he fell and broke his hip the hip was not damaged very badly and after a short hospital stay he was allowed home and able to return to work after six weeks.
After a few more years had passed he began to suffer with arthritis of the hip.
and in 1989 he had a hip replacement.
The hip replacement eventually failed and it was decided that there was no alternative but to remove it and have another hip replacement.
It was during this replacement when the trouble started and when the surgeons removed the old artificial hip and started to replace it  his femur started to fracture, it was then that the surgeons had no option other than to cut the femur back until they found good strong bone this resulted in the 3" shortening of his leg.
As we chated he mentioned that he still had his first pair of built up shoes that were now lying redundant in the garden shed as over the years he can no longer do his garden and his wife was planning a clear out of the shed, I asked him if i could have the old pair and you can see them in the photos below.
I recently spotted Mr Upchurch and his wife shopping,  we had a brief chat and Mr Upchurch told me he was wearing his latest pair of shoes I asked to take some  pictures for my web site and he that he dint mind as long as he could not be recognized the resulting pictures are displayed below.
